One More Mowing Day Before Summer Finally Gives Up

Brian’s fitness journal after a brain stroke

Thanks to the extra week of summer temperatures, our grass apparently decided mowing season wasn’t finished after all. I think we’ll have one more mowing day before summer finally gives up.

So today became another mowing day. I managed to mow half the yard, and I’ll tackle the other half next week. Hopefully, that will finally be the end of mowing for the season.

I’ve probably said that before.

Tomorrow, I also have to get bloodwork done ahead of my nephrology appointment next week. Extra medical appointments have interrupted my yard-work schedule several times this summer, so I’ve gotten pretty good at rearranging chores around them.

Fortunately, tomorrow’s lab appointment is late enough that I can still do my morning run. The schedule will be a little tight, though, especially since I want enough time to eat breakfast before leaving. No delays allowed. Of course, life rarely follows the schedule exactly as we create it.

That’s something I’ve become better at accepting. Plans change. Appointments appear. Weather refuses to cooperate. Grass keeps growing when I’d much rather it stopped.

Fortunately, years of consistent running and exercise have considerably improved my endurance. That makes it easier to handle an unexpected lawn-mowing catch-up session without completely exhausting myself. Still, I’m very happy that summer is finally ending.

Leaf cleaning is already waiting for me, but compared with pushing a mower around our steep yard, vacuuming leaves feels almost civilized. So I’m ready for fall.

Now I just need the grass to receive the announcement.
