Reorganizing Our Weekend: The Great Saturday-Sunday Experiment

Brian’s fitness journal after a brain stroke

I reorganized our weekend and did some weekend schedule planning. We’ve recently changed our grocery schedule, which means I’ve had to reorganize the rest of our weekend around it. Apparently, even weekends require project management.

We normally handle most errands and household activities on Saturdays. Since my brain stroke, I haven’t been able to drive, so Saturday works best because my wife has more time. Groceries, hair appointments, veterinary visits, and other errands usually end up there.

My wife also spends part of Saturday making things at home—soap, yogurt, jam, and whatever other project has recently attracted her attention. She wanted to move our grocery shopping earlier so we could spend more time together Saturday evening instead of wandering around a grocery store. That sounded perfectly reasonable. The challenge was my running schedule.

Running later in the day during Nashville’s warmer months is not particularly appealing unless I want to experience what it feels like to exercise inside an oven. So, I rearranged everything. Tomorrow, after grocery shopping, I’ll make our fancy coffee and my wife’s omelet, then make next week’s pastry bites later. That leaves Sunday relatively clear for my 10K run and our evening pizza.

We’ve even adjusted our cider schedule. Since we won’t be picking up our next growler on the way home from grocery shopping, we’ll get it tonight instead. Everything has been carefully rearranged. At least on paper.

Tomorrow will be the first real test, with Sunday determining whether my brilliant new weekend schedule actually works.

If it does, we’ll have a more relaxed weekend.

If it doesn’t…

I suppose I’ll reorganize the reorganization.
